A Queue Management Mechanism for Improving TCP fairness in Wireless Access Networks

چکیده
Due to the contention nature of Wi-Fi medium access control, several fairness issues exist. Moreover, the Access Point (AP) buffer space plays an important role in the provisioning of fairness to the flows. This paper presents a novel queue management technique designed to ameliorate fairness problems in Wi-Fi last mile networks. The proposed mechanism allocates the AP buffer space based on information available at the mobile nodes and sent to AP via link layer acknowledgement frames. The proposed mechanism is transparent to higher layers as well to the wired part of the network. Performance results show that the novel mechanism leads to considerable improvement when compared to traditional drop-tail queue management.

Evaluation of a Queue Management Method for TCP Communications over Multi-hop Wireless Links
In this paper we propose a queue management method for improving TCP performance over multihop wireless links. With our proposed control method, packet loss in the wireless link is completely eliminated and all packets are delivered in the correct order. No change is required to TCP itself or to the servers. Our proposed method is implemented between the media access control layer (MAC) and log...
متن کاملAn Adaptive Congestion Alleviating Protocol for Healthcare Applications in Wireless Body Sensor Networks: Learning Automata Approach
Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...
متن کاملDesigning AQM Mechanism for Improving Fairness among TCP Connections in Tandem Networks
In recent years, AQM (Active Queue Management) mechanisms, which control the number of packets in the router’s buffer by randomly discarding an arriving packet, have been actively studied. In past studies, most of AQM mechanisms have been designed by taking account of a single router; i.e., few AQM mechanisms have been designed by taking account of multiple routers in the network. In a tandem n...
متن کاملTCP fairness issues in IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs
In this paper, we study several TCP fairness issues in wireless local networks, both experimentally and via simulation. We illustrate the unfairness problems caused by the 802.11 MAC protocol, as well as by cross-layer interactions. Two possible solutions, namely SPM-AF queue management and LAS queue management, are proposed in the paper. These two queue management approaches are designed to al...
متن کاملA New Queue Discipline for Reducing Bufferbloat Effects in HetNet Concurrent Multipath Transfer
Heterogeneous wireless networks have evolved to reach application requirements for low latency and high throughput on Internet access. Recent studies have improved network performance employing the Multipath TCP, which aggregates flows from heterogeneous wireless interfaces in a single connection. Although existing proposals are powerful, coupled congestion control algorithms are currently limi...
